Nd-YAG Laser for Vascular and Pigmented Lesions
Nd-YAG Laser for Vascular and Pigmented Lesions
The Nd-YAG laser is a device that can be safely and effectively used to treat vascular colorations or spider veins as well as other
skin pigmentation blemishes known as pigmented lesions. In this procedure, special laser devices are used to target the affected area
of skin and break up the pigmentation. Most types of birthmarks or other skin pigmentation problems such as moles, large freckles, age
spots, and spider veins on the legs and arms can benefit from this procedure.
Nd-YAG laser treatment is usually a fairly quick procedure and may take as little as ten minutes. The laser normally creates a bit
of a stinging sensation as the procedure is administered and feels similar to a pinch. Cool-tip technology now minimizes the discomfort
of the procedure by keeping the skin temperature constant through a special cooling device and cooling applicator. Topical creams are
also available, although most patients do not require such creams.
The procedure can be performed on a variety of skin colors and is free of side effects for the most part. Patients should expect
some reddening and swelling in the affected area immediately following the procedure, but these should fade quickly. Occasionally,
blistering and bruising may also occur, but these should also fade away relatively quickly.
Plan on wearing sun block for the next four to six weeks following the procedure and be careful to avoid sun exposure during this
time period. Your doctor will further direct you regarding the steps that should be taken as your skin recovers, and multiple visits
are normally required to fully resolve skin pigmentation problems. Contact Doctor Nabavian today to learn more about this laser
treatment procedure.
